HSHS Holy Family Hospital to Host Blood Drive on Thursday, April 2


(GREENVILLE, IL) – Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, many blood drives that would have taken place at schools, churches, and businesses have been cancelled as these places were closed to comply with social distancing and stay-at-home requirements.  During these times of shelter in place directives, blood donation is considered an allowed, essential activity, and healthy individuals are encouraged to seek opportunities in their area so that adequate blood supply levels can be maintained.
 
HSHS Holy Family Hospital and Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center are hosting a blood drive on Thursday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The drive will be held in Mississippi Valley’s blood donation bus that will be parked on Holy Family’s parking lot at 200 Health Care Dr., Greenville, IL.
 
In order to maintain proper safety procedures, participants will need to make an appointment by calling, 1-866-448-3253 or visiting bloodcenter.org – sponsor code 60108. A photo ID is required to participate, and it is encouraged that all donors get a good night’s sleep and eat a sustaining meal and hydrate well before donating.
 
A blood donor can give every eight weeks, or up to six times a year. All person’s age 17 and up (or 16 with a signed parental permission form) who weigh at least 110 lbs. and are in general good health meet the basic eligibility requirements for blood donation.
